A wedding coordinator is no longer considered just a luxury for the wealthy. The coordinator can actually save you time and money. Outside of making sure everything goes smoothly at the ceremony itself, a wedding coordinator spends hundreds of hours just to plan the wedding.

Most busy professionals planning to marry simply don't have the time to negotiate contracts with caterers, florists, photographers, bakeries, wedding location and wedding reception hall managers, etc. Other services may include flower design, invitation design and ordering, entertainment, transportation, and arrangements with caterers for tastings. A wedding coordinator can help avoid sorrowful and costly mistakes. She or he will know the reputations of a lot of vendors you are considering.

Preparing for a wedding can be a very apprehensive period of your life. You will form a bond of friendship with your wedding coordinator as you look for reassurance that everything is going okay. Their word on these important decisions will carry weight and comfort.

Here's some tips on choosing a Wedding Coordinator:

1) Discuss with them their preferences, their specialization. Do they mainly handle Jewish, Christian, Moslem, or other weddings? Do they like big, medium, or small weddings? Do they chiefly operate in certain areas or locations?

2) Make sure you can take a list of references to call. Ask the people on this list what services the coordinator actually performed. Did they deliver everything on time? How well did they communicate with the bride and groom during the months of planning?

3) Visit an event that your prospective coordinator is overseeing. Observe how they operate while it is taking place. Because it's not YOUR event you can judge less emotionally. Please be considerate and dress to blend in at this party that you are "crashing".

4) It is important to sign detailed contracts with your coordinator. Spell out exactly what you are contracting for.

5) Do not be misled by other people who claim to "coordinate" weddings. Concierge, ceremony site coordinator, reception site coordinator, caterer, or people that coordinate for "free". Only a certified or experience wedding coordinator actually provides a "turnkey" service to handle EVERYTHING from planning to the smooth execution of every minute of your wedding day.

6) Don't be misled by people who advise you not to "waste' your money on a wedding coordinator. Unless you are just "getting hitched" in Vegas, or literally just want a barebones ceremony in your yard, you will be thankful for the training and experience of a professionally dedicated wedding coordinator. They are there to take care of your dream.

7) Even if your prospective wedding coordinator is experienced, well spoken of, and reasonably priced you must find them responsive and easy to talk to. If you sense either one of you dislikes the other's personality then go look for another wedding coordinator. You are going to spend far too much time together to endure personality conflicts.
